Ramya is very beautiful South Indian actress and she has very good performing ability, who has predominantly acted in Kannada films and also appeared in Tamil and Telugu films.

Ramya is born 29th November, 1982 in Bangalore. Her real name is Divya Spandana popularly known by her stage name Ramya. Her parents originally hail from Mandya. She is granddaughter of former Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna.

She studied her primary schoolind at St. Hilda’s school in Ooty, Tamil Nadu. She completed her graduation at St Josephs College of Commerce, Bangalore. Right from her school days, Ramya was participating in dance competitions, stage shows and college fests. She aspires to become a film producer very soon and assures that she would obviously be playing the lead role in the film produced under her home banner.


Ramya entered the sandalwoood industry with Kannada superhit movie “Abhi” starring against Puneet Rajkumar. She was originally supposed to make debut in Rajkumar's first film Appu, for which she, however, was not selected eventually, and was later offered and signed for the lead female role in Abhi, which became a commercial success. This film made her golden girl and paved the way for her career in film industry.

The same year, she stepped into Telugu filmdom with the film Abhimanyu.

It is to be noted that having faith in astrology her original name was changed from “Divya Spandana” to “Ramya” as her screen name. But she retains the origanal name “Divya” in her Tamil films, so only in Tamilnadu she is popularly known as Divya only.


Subsequently, she acted in many Kannada film, enacting the lead female role, establishing herself as one of most-sought after actresses in the Kannada film industry.

Divya Spandana has been acting in Tamil and Telugu movies as well.

In 2004, she debuted in the Tamil film industry, with the name Ramya, with the film "Kuthu" opposite toSilambarasan, which managed only a mediocre run at the box office as did her next Tamil film Giri. Her debut film, however, gave her the name ‘Kuthu’ Ramya, by which she was popularly known in Tamil Nadu. Her breakthrough in Tamil came through her film Polladhavan, where she acted against Dhanush. The film, released during the 2007, was considered a dark horse success.

She has acted with famous Hindi stars Amitabh bachchan and Dino morea. Amritadhaare is the first kannada movie where Amitabh bachchan made few minutes appearance with Ramya.

She earlier confessed that she spent few days in European countries for learning Portuguese launguage. Their were rumours milling that Divya Spandana was dating "Raphael" the son of a liquor tycoon and few of her fans says that she would marry IAS officer who belongs to Gowda caste.


She has broken the language divider and has uniformly acted in movies in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam and looked confident every time she hit the screen.


Ramya has also acted in a new short film, which was made to create AIDS awareness. The story of the film was by Meera Nair and the film was directed by none other than Santosh Sivan.

The glow in Ramya's face is a reflection of hard work. She worked hard to loss a few kilos in order to fit into the role of the film Arrasu and she has lost eight kg so far.


Divya Spandana received a nomination for a Filmfare Award for Best Actress for the film Mussanjemaatu.

Ramya is also the brand ambassador for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
